St. Catharines, Ontario, March 21, 2025 – The vibrant dance production “My Mulan” is set to enchant audiences in the Niagara region in 2025, showcasing a unique blend of culture and artistry. Premiering in 2019, the production has completed six seasons with 20 performances, earning critical acclaim and widespread audience appreciation. Under the visionary leadership of producer Hu Xu and artistic director Li Lin, this original Canadian dance drama promises a captivating experience that transcends traditional storytelling.

“My Mulan” draws inspiration from the legendary tale of Mulan, reimagined through the modern story of a young woman named Michelle. As Michelle navigates personal challenges, the narrative interweaves ancient themes with contemporary struggles, providing a profound exploration of identity, resilience, and empowerment. This innovative approach has captivated audiences across Canada, earning widespread acclaim.

The press conference at the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre (PAC) highlighted the exceptional support from local community leaders. St. Catharines City Councillor Robin McPherson, speaking on behalf of Mayor Mat Siscoe, praised the show’s emotional and visual depth, noting, “We are delighted to welcome ‘My Mulan’ back to Niagara. It’s truly a spectacular event that enriches our local arts and culture.”

Niagara Falls City Councillor Mona Patel, representing MP Tony Baldinelli, emphasized the show’s multicultural significance, remarking, “‘My Mulan’ is inspiring, showing our young generations that perseverance and passion can overcome any barrier.”

FirstOntario PAC’s CEO Colleen A. Smith underscored the significance of their venue partnership, stating, “FirstOntario PAC’s Partridge Hall is Niagara’s premier performance venue, dedicated to bringing communities together through the arts. ‘My Mulan’ perfectly aligns with this vision, and we are thrilled to host and promote this extraordinary production.”

Producer Hu Xu emphasized the production’s deep commitment to local collaboration, saying, “We are not merely here to perform and leave. We aim to collaborate with local artists and talented dancers, making ‘My Mulan’ a vibrant celebration of community and culture.”

Chief Director Li Lin highlighted the universal appeal of the story: “Mulan and Michelle represent every woman’s journey of growth and discovery. As a director, I deeply believe in theatre’s transformative power, and performing at FirstOntario PAC, a cultural centerpiece of the Niagara region, is both an honor and a milestone.”

The creative team, including music director Harlin, lead actor Alan (Rouran King), Molly Levas (Michelle), and assistant director Olivia Lau, also shared their excitement and aspirations for the production.

We welcome support from the broader community through sponsorship, volunteering, resource sharing, ticket sales, or simply spreading the word. Every form of support is invaluable.”
